Nadine Micallef-Grimaud,

Pg.Cert. in Fine Arts, Dem.Dip. Nafas-UK

Nadine Micallef-Grimaud is an artist who literally lives art. She studied art under the tutorship of her father, Aldo, and attended courses in painting at the Malta Society of Arts and other foreign institutions. At the age of ten she won her first important art prize in the Fifth World School Children’s Art Exhibition held in Taiwan, Republic of China. Later in life, Nadine was awarded many prizes at international level and has registered a notable success in countries like Durban in South Africa, England and Belgium. She also attained a coveted major award known as the Season’s Award in Boston, U.S.A. The artist is also the holder of La Medaglia d’Oro by the Accademia del Mediterraneao, a gold medal by the Malta Horticultural Society, and a Gold Ribbon in Canada.

Nadine’s name is also associated with Floral Art and during the years she became a leading exponent of this art form. She is an interdisciplinary artist and creates landscape and figurative images, and abstract works in a variety of media. She also expresses her concepts in installation work. Nadine has a postgraduate certificate in Fine Art and she is also a qualified demonstrator of Floral Art (NAFAS, UK). Nadine was head of the make-up department in the film 20,000 Reasons (MFC - London Film Microwave). Apart from dedicating most of her time to painting and sculpture, she teaches floral art and special effects for film and TV makeup at the Malta Society of Arts, Valletta.

Throughout her artistic career, Nadine exhibited her works in many collective and personal exhibitions in Malta and abroad.

Worth mentioning is the art exhibition entitled Living for Art. This exhibition was sponsored by the UNESCO Club (Malta) and held at the Le Meridien Hotel Phoenicia in 1997.

As mentioned in her biography, Nadine-Micallef Grimaud, was brought up observing her father Aldo working in his studio. He was her first mentor. In 2014, the APS Bank organised an eclectic three year project of art exhibitions held at the Swatar Centre in Birkirkara. Two-Generations of Maltese Artistic Families was the title of the series of art exhibitions and the artist showcased her paintings with that of her father shown side by side. A book was published for the occasion, which included the biographies of the artists and a critical analysis of their work.

In recent years the artist focused more on abstract painting. She successfully achieved great results with her continuous exploration and experimentation with new techniques with colours. In 2016, the artist exhibited a collection of these works at her solo exhibition entitled Echo of my Soul, held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & SPA, Attard, Malta.

A recurring theme which the artist expresses in these abstract paintings is the shape of the snake or its derivative. Snake patterns, the water-snake, the primordial coiled snake or 'Ouroboros', and other circular motifs emerge in some of her paintings. Nadine participates in the annual event known as the MCCF Fine Art Auction in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund. Prior to the auction, a collective art exhibition is held at the Presidential Palace in Malta.

In 2018, Nadine Micallef-Grimaud was chosen as the only Maltese guest artist to participate at Valletta'18 European Capital of Culture. This prestigious event was held in Palermo, Sicily.

Nadine is an active artist who successfully shows her works in many foreign countries aboard. In 2018 she participated at the Malta Art Week in Japan and the Tokyo, Japan Art Festival 2020. Her latest work was also shown at the Malta Enterprise Art Exhibition 2022.
